Justin King is a Managing Director at Vista Peak and the practice leader of the firm’s ESOP valuation and advisory practice. At Vista Peak, Justin all business valuation and transaction advisory engagements. With nearly two decades of business valuation and finance experience, he has valued and overseen more than 3,000 business valuations for ESOP (formation, annual valuation, and sale transactions), gift and estate tax and planning, transaction opinion, corporate / exit planning, charitable giving, equity incentive, M&A, financial reporting (ASC 805, ASC 350, ASC 360, ASC 820), intellectual property, capital raising, shareholder dispute, marital dissolution, and litigation support purposes. In addition, Justin has extensive experience advising clients on complex financial transactions.
Justin is very active in the ESOP community and a member of The ESOP Association (TEA) and National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO) organizations. In addition, Justin sits on the advisory committee on valuation of TEA and is regularly invited to speak at national and regional conference of TEA and NCEO.
Prior to founding Vista Peak, Justin was a Director at Ryan Valuation (fka Economics Partners) where he was the practice leader of the firm’s ESOP, gift & estate tax, financial reporting, and complex security valuation practices and sat as the head and founder of the firm’s technical task force committee. Prior to Economics Partners, Justin was a Principal at Scalar. Justin began his valuation career in the Valuation Services Group Technology Practice of Kroll (fka Duff & Phelps).
Justin loves to give back to the next generation of valuation professionals through ongoing training and mentorship and regularly participates as a mentor to university students participating in national business valuation case competitions.
In addition to his valuation experience, Justin has founded or co-founded companies in the skincare, software development, outsourcing, education, and agriculture industries on three separate continents and is able to bring a unique experience to the business valuation and advisory process, having sat on both sides of the table.
Justin holds the Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) designation in business valuation from the American Society of Appraisers. He received an MBA from the Marriott School of Management and a BS in Finance from Brigham Young University.
Justin enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and 6 children. He is an avid runner and hiker and enjoys trail running in the foothills near his home while preparing to run his first 100-mile ultramarathon or taking extended backpacking trips. In addition, Justin is also a board member and coach at Roadrunner Junior Club, a nationally recognized and award winning youth running club where he helps guide overall strategy and train the next generation of distance runners.
Justin strongly believes in the ability of businesses to be a force for good. He is particularly focused on how innovative and sustainable enterprises can help tackle complex social challenges in developing countries. Justin regularly works with and advises mission driven companies in developing countries.
